This Privacy Policy describes how Pocket Oracle (“the app”, “we”, “our”) handles your information when you use the Pocket Oracle mobile application. Pocket Oracle is developed and operated by Franklin Godfrey (“the developer”, “I”), a sole individual developer, and is not affiliated with any company or organization.
I take a minimalist approach to data: I do not run analytics, I do not show ads, I do not sell anything to anyone, and I never associate the questions you type with any personal identity.
Questions you type. When you ask Pocket Oracle a question and shake your phone, the text you typed is transmitted to a small proxy server I operate at pocket-oracle-proxy.godfreyfranklin.workers.dev (hosted on Cloudflare). The proxy forwards the question to Anthropic’s Claude API, receives a generated answer, and returns the answer to your device. The proxy does not log, store, or persist the question text after the response is returned. Cloudflare may retain transient connection logs as part of its standard infrastructure operations; see Cloudflare’s privacy practices at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
Anthropic API processing. Anthropic processes the question text only to generate a response. Anthropic’s data handling is governed by its own policies, available at anthropic.com/legal.
Question and answer history. Past questions and the oracle’s answers are stored only on your device, locally, using your phone’s built-in app storage (AsyncStorage on iOS and Android). This history never leaves your device. It is not synced to any server, cloud account, or backup operated by me. If you delete the app, the history is deleted with it.
Device sensor data. The app reads accelerometer values to detect when you shake the phone. These values stay on the device and are never transmitted off it.
I do not share, sell, rent, or trade your data with anyone. The only third parties that touch your data are the infrastructure providers necessary to deliver the oracle response: Cloudflare (which routes the request) and Anthropic (which generates the answer). Both are bound by their own privacy policies, linked above.
Pocket Oracle is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact me and I will assist where possible — though since the app does not collect personal information from anyone, there is generally nothing to delete.
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
The legal basis for processing the question text you submit is your consent, given by the act of asking a question.
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you certain rights regarding personal information. Pocket Oracle does not sell personal information and does not collect personal information beyond the transient question text described above. You may contact me with any CCPA-related request.
Communication between the app and the proxy server uses HTTPS (TLS encryption). The proxy and Anthropic API also communicate over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but I do not store sensitive data and have minimized the surface area accordingly.
I may update this policy if the app’s behavior changes — for example, if I add a new feature that handles data differently. The “Last updated” date at the top of this document will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
